Large-scale oil paintings of Skude, on the island of Karmøy in Norway, the
artist's family's home. The historic significance of the island as a center
of maritime traffic will be explored.

Kardemimmit
Modern kantele group from Finland

Kardemimmit is a Finnish folk music group who all play Finland’s ancient national instrument, kantele, with a fresh, young style. The group consists of four young women: Maija Pokela, Jutta Rahmel, Anna Wegelius and Leeni Wegelius. Their music is influenced by Finnish and Scandinavian traditions, but they play mainly original compositions. Kardemimmit is reknowned for their numerous recordings, performances and awards and this summer they will perform at Finland’s largest folk music festivals including Kaustinen Folk Music Festival and Haapavesi Folk. Don’t miss this very special evening followed by an artist reception co-sponsored by the Finlandia Foundation. Ticket price: $10 members, $12 non-members. Northwest Designer Craftsmen: Nordic Roots

Northwest Designer Craftsmen was founded in the 1950s, dedicated to breaking down the barrier between fine arts and craft. From the time of its founding, the mission of NWDC has been to promote quality of idea, design, and craftsmanship in all media. Northwest Designer Craftsmen: Nordic Roots will feature the work of nineteen members of the group who trace their heritage to the Nordic countries. They will exhibit tapestry, jewelry, ceramics, fiber art, mixed media constructions, and beadwork.
