Orchestra Seattle
Seattle Chamber Singers
Orchestra Seattle is a 60-member semiprofessional orchestra. The membership includes professional musicians, music teachers, and highly skilled amateurs who choose to work together under the direction of George Shangrow.
The Seattle Chamber Singers is a 55-voice chorus with membership by audition. Founded in 1969, the Chamber Singers began as a madrigal group, and in the early years performed Renaissance and Baroque music with original instruments of the era as well as new music by Seattle composers, several of whom were group members.
Music by Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Handel, Stravinsky, to name a few.

UW Germanics Department The Department of Germanics organizes many events that attract a wide range of visitors to the University.  Interdisciplinary conferences—such as the May 2007 “Inventions of the Imagination: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Imaginary since Romanticism”—bring scholars to campus from across the US and Europe.  Community events such as the lecture series “Connections and Contexts” (organized collaboration with and hosted by Seattle’s Frye Art Museum) provide a venue for area residents to learn about and enjoy Germanic culture.  The Department also collaborates with the German, Austrian and Swiss Consulates to bring visiting artists and dignitaries to campus for seminars, public performances, and receptions. The Munich Secession, founded in 1892, was the first in a series of Secession movements that were to sweep across Europe and lay the foundation for the emergence of the avant-garde in the twentieth century. From January 24 through April 12, 2009, the Frye Art Museum will present The Munich Secession and America, a major survey of the leading artists of the Munich Secession, and of the Munich Künstlergenossenschaft, the influential artists’ association which preceded it.

Sev Shoon, Armenian for black dog, was started in 1991 by Dionne Haroutunian who came to Seattle from Switzerland in 1985. Housed in an art-deco landmark, this 1920s cigar-store-turned-jewelry shop still bears burn marks on its worn wooden countertops. That's not the only bit of history here; about 75 percent of the pieces are antique, chosen with care by owner Alexandria Rossoff during her European travels. The other 25 percent consist of rare finds, modern and exquisite gems, and custom pieces. A certified gem appraiser, Alexandria Rossoff has a following in the old carriage trade tradition; word of mouth brings in many loyal customers.
